Migration from MyStore to Shopify – online store on MacBook

MyStore is a Norwegian e-commerce platform that has given many shops an easy start. But as businesses grow – with more products, international ambitions, and the need for advanced integrations – many find that MyStore is no longer sufficient. Shopify is the natural next step.

Why do people switch from MyStore to Shopify?

The most common reasons we hear from shop owners looking to migrate:

  • Limited app ecosystem: MyStore has a much narrower selection of integrations compared to the Shopify App Store, which features 8,000+ apps.

  • International sales: Shopify is built for global selling – with multi-language support, multi-currency, and localized checkout experiences.

  • AI and automation: Shopify's Sidekick, Campaign Autopilot, and Shopify Magic have no equivalents in MyStore.

  • Scalability: Shopify handles traffic peaks like BFCM without downtime.

What can you export from MyStore?

MyStore supports exporting products and categories as a CSV file from the administration panel. Go to Products → Export and download the product list. For order history, contact MyStore support – some plans include order export, others do not.

Customer data can be exported from the Customers section. Remember GDPR requirements when processing customer data during the migration.

Step 1: Prepare your Shopify account

Start a 14-day free trial on Shopify. Choose a theme that suits your brand – Dawn (free) is a good starting point. Set up Shopify Payments, Vipps, and other payment methods under Settings → Payments.

Step 2: Customize and import product data

The MyStore export format is not directly compatible with Shopify. You need to adjust the CSV file so that the columns match Shopify's import format. Use Shopify's official CSV template as a reference – you can find it under Products → Import → Download template.

Important columns to map: Title, Body (HTML), Vendor, Tags, Variant Price, Variant SKU, Variant Inventory Qty, and Image Src. If you have many products, consider using Matrixify – a Shopify app that handles large data volumes efficiently.

Step 3: URL structure and 301 redirects

MyStore and Shopify use different URL structures for products and categories. To preserve the SEO value you have rebuilt, you must set up 301 redirects from all old MyStore URLs to the corresponding Shopify URLs.

Example: mystore.no/produkter/produktnavndinbutikk.no/products/produktnavn

Redirects are set up under Online Store → Navigation → URL Redirects in the Shopify admin.

Step 4: Domain migration

Your domain is managed by your current domain provider. To point the domain to Shopify, update the DNS settings with Shopify's IP addresses and CNAME record. Shopify has detailed instructions for the most common domain providers under Settings → Domains.

Plan the domain migration for a low-traffic time – DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally.

Step 5: Testing and launch

Before publishing: conduct test orders, check all product images and descriptions, test checkout on mobile and desktop, and verify that redirects function as expected. Ensure that Google Analytics or other analytical tools are set up again in Shopify.

Common pitfalls to avoid

  • Do not forget to export product images separately – they are not always included in the CSV export.

  • Set up robots.txt and sitemap in Shopify before launch.

  • Inform regular customers about the new website via email.
